Mustangworld's Mac Products Tour
Written by Mustangworld (1997).

Watch as we take a quick tour of the
Mac Products manufacturing facility in California.

Click here to hear 5.0 Mac Cat-Back Sounds !

We took these pics on an "off day" so we would not disturb production. The facility is normally full of customers, workers, trucks, (our Mustangworld stangs ;-), etc.

HERE WE GO !

Here is the mac products building, located in sunny California. It is the size of several football fields and we could not get the whole building in the picture, you can see our project 4.6L in the photo as well. Inside is where all the manufacturing of Cat-backs, h-pipes, mufflers, tools, chains, chassis braces, headers, gears, sprockets, etc. takes place, for many makes of cars, motor cycles and engines. To big to fit in frame !
Of course Mac owns their share of cars, heres a stang complete with Mac Cat-back. It's a '94 GT 5.0 automatic. They also have a complete R&D test facility (see below) where they test every design to optimize performance. We wish we could tell you what they were working on right now, but it's a secret ! Mac's Cool GT Convertible !
Here you can see different size tubes for use in different exhaust components. Each header, h-pipe, and muffler starts out as a simple stainless steel tube and sheet metal. This metal is then twisted, bent, punched, tapped, forged and welded into the shape of a header or muffler, etc. Watching a header being made is like watching a piece of art being created. Each header, muffler, etc. is HAND MADE right here by very skilled workers inside the facility ! Stainless Steel Tubes
Here are the different templates used to create an exhaust system. Depending on what kind of exhaust part needs to be made, a different template is chosen. With many different car & motorcycle makes & models, different model years, head designs, engine sizes,etc..  you need tons of different templates from which to make an exhaust system from ! They know an exhaust system will fit like a glove on your model year stang according to these templates. Manufacturing Templates
Further down the line there are several machines needed to complete the process. Tube bending machines, welding equipment, alignment machines, machines to fix machines, and the list goes on... Machines !
Chrome plating machines, drilling machines, tapping machines, powder coating machines... Don't forget that Mac makes more than just mufflers and headers, they also manufacture chassis components, subframe connectors, strut braces, Harley Davidson polished chrome tips, engine racks, and more... More Machines !
Each and every part also goes through a quality control check, here they look for any flaws in construction for each part, if they find any flaws, it's back to the assembly line or the part is "dumped". No faulty part is allowed to be shipped out to the consumer. Quality Control
Header spaghetti, it's a nice dish. Check out this pile of headers ! We're looking at what, $8,000 in headers here?  These happen to be original Mac designs that we're improved upon by their own R & D testing. You know what they say, "to make an omelette, you need to break a few eggs". Mac was the originator of the "equal length" header design you see today on the 5.0 ! Many Mac products are manufactured for other dealers and sold under many different brand names. header spaghetti ! Al la pasta !
Here is Mac's internal R & D test facility, here they can be "sure" about what performance gains they are getting out of their designs, it includes all of the latest computer test equipment and get's updated all the time. Mac's R & D facility
Ready to ship ! Palletes full of Cat-back's ! These parts are being shipped all over the world for use by professional race teams and performance enthusiasts alike ! Ready To Ship !

We'd like to thank Norman, Mac Jr., Mike and all the rest of the kind folks at Mac Products for giving us the tour of their facility. You can also visit their website at  www.macprod.com.

Until next time..... Se ya on the street !
