That's a great way to look at it... If I were bored I could list the number of cars in the 20-30k range that don't even come close to the FRS or BRZ for fun factor for the price.. Not that you have to like everything about it, but people don't buy a Prius to go drag racing, just like they don't buy a FRS to go drag racing.
You're entirely entitled to your opinion, and after driving one for several days, I don't think i could live with one based on the straight line performance you'd mentioned.. But I think it does have it's place, there are many people out there more into auto crossing, or taking corners rather than being into drag racing.. And vice versa..
IMO after riding down with RLS in his 240.. This feels like the modern version of the goals of that car, far from the fastest thing out there, but affordable in the entry-level world, superb handling, extremely fun to drive, and for people where straight line or out-of corner acceleration isn't everything, the car is surprisingly superb..
