4:10 Gears and a Supercharger

Are 4:10 gears too much if I plan on adding a supercharger? And is the selflubricating Vortech a better choice over the type that taps into the oil pan?

Everything depends on your setup, 4.10's + Street Tires + PD Blower = PITA, with the Vortech I think you can easily handle them and it makes the car way more fun to drive. As for the self lubricating vortechs, never really heard to much on them, I know prochargers had issues with seals so hopefully vortech thought of that. I would discuss it with whoever you want to do the install and tuning, not sure where in Mass you are but there are two guys I know of close to me: Karls East Coast and Dez racing, I went by Dez's and quickly ran away.

I ran them up until I made a few passes with the blower on 275-40-17 Nitto DR's which bounced off the limiter around the 1000ft mark. Granted running a taller tire or raising the rev limiter would've correted this problem but switching to 3.73's was a better decision for me at my power level IMO..

The Si V3 self-lubricating Vortech is by far better than than the old version where you need to tap the pan. I do not think that Vortech makes the S or SQ trim where you have to tap the pan anymore. I pretty sure all their S trims now are the Si V3. The V3 is more efficient and produces less heat than the older V1 and V2. The V3 Si can actually be compared to a T trim power wise. If you want to do any power adder just go with 3.73's. If you don't do drag racing then don't get 4.10's. I've got 4.10's and full bolt ons. Once I get even an 8psi supercharger I will run out of gear or be very close to maxing 4th out at the drag strip, and will have to step up to a slightly taller tire. If you have the money get a supercharger first and then decide what to do next. You may be happy with just a supercharger and may not need to do gears, shift kit, converter, longtubes.

really all depends on what your looking for, if you put a s/c on and happy with that 4.10's will work fine, if you want to go further than that yes keep a lower gear.

The T-trim still out performs the Si just not by as much as the S. Plus the T-trim can come with HD bearings. I over spun a V1 S-trim for years and 30+k miles. I'm a fan of tapping the pan for longevity.

V1 Si

I have been running all 5 of my Mustangs with either a ATI D1SC Procharger, or Garrett twin turbo set up and love my 4.10s in all of them! Running 27" tall tire and end 1/4 mile at very top of 4th. But I agree, with a whipple or other PD 3.73 is the way to go.

PM me if you need any additional info or if you're looking for a great price on the blower or gears.

I got the KB with 4:10's, if I had to do it over again I would go with the 3.73's, but I only drive the street's, but with DR's I can hook and dust off alot of people with my setup, it takes some practice. But the DR's get expensive!!!! I'm almost done with mine and I just got them in MAY??? I will be going back to some High Performance tires next time. Yeah I can't launch like before but the cost of DR's in not what I'm looking for!!! Plus getting all over the place is pretty fun!!!!

I had a Vortech installed at Karls East Coast Speed a few years back with 4.10 gears. It was the first they did that had 4.10 gears with the supercharger because I had the gears installed first never thinking I would put the supercharger in. They loved it and I still love it. I gears seem to give a quick acceleration then the supercharger kicks in at higher RPMs.

I have 4.10s and a T trim. For the street it is probably fine but for the track I had to switch to a 28'' tall tire to keep from going through the traps on the limiter.

x2.

My car went form making 380 NA to 560 with the SC. What used to be fun just turned into hazing the tires right off and on the rev limiter. 1st & 2nd were downright useless.
The car became faster with the 3:27's, since I could stay in the throttle

yes and no, mod motors need rpm and gear. if you gear that thing down to much it will be a dog
3.73 or 4.10's
if this car is a street car you dont need to be using a 3.27

i had one of those rock grinder at idle strims on my 98 cobra back in 1999. i never had a problem with that car or the oil tap. that car ran awesome for the day making 460rwhp on 9psi, stock manifolds with a catted basani. i had 4.10's and 275/40 nitto 555r's on 17/9 rims and it was very drivable....the 4.10s work well because those centrifugal blowers make ****ty low end tq (compared to something like this eaton 04).
