2000 GT 82k Gear change question

Alright guys. I am finally looking at doing the gear change. I have decided on 3.73's (I know, I know) I do a lot of highway driving now to work and back (only like 15 miles there and 15 back)

The car only has a BBK cai, Bama Tuner, O/R H-pipe, and flows. I thought just to get a little more feel out of it this is the cheapest alternative.

Since I am doing the change at 82k, what else should I plan on changing while I am under there just to be safe. I am looking at the Ford Racing 3.73 gears and install pack from American Muscle. What else should I check on ?

Thanks fellas !

Should check on 4.10's. I still got upper 20's on the highway before the blower and cams went in. Get 22-25 on the highway now after the blower and cams.

Rebuild the diff and put in new bearings and seals while you've got it torn apart.

I heat cycled mine in the following order:
- 10 minute easy driving
- 15 minute cool down
- 10 minute easy driving
- 30 minute cool down
- drive it like you stole it
- gear oil change with a good synthetic & friction modifier added

15 miles is a lot of driving??

If 5speed 4.30s. I wouldn't waste money on 3.73s

Thx red !

Well not a lot. 15 on the highway one way though, I'm afraid 4.30s will be to steep. It is a 5 spd

I've ran 4.10s for years now in my 2000, stick and would've gone 4.30s if I could go back. I can get 24-26 mpg highway though. Don't fear the gear!

3:73 are a waste of time and money. 4:10s or 4:30s are the way to go.

Just wanted to let you guys know, THANK YOU for talking me into 4.10s.

I would have been depressed going with 3.73s. These are perfect.

So you like the 4.10s? Cool, I wish I would have gone that route when I did my gears. More than likely I will just swap my brother who has 4.10s and he wants my 3.73s.

Are you around 2500rpm at 70mph in 5th?

Sorry for the SUPER late reply. Love the 4.10's, absolutely love them. At 70 I am closer to 2700ish. Really woke the car up.

Just recently added Steeda u/d pullys with a accufab 75mm t/b and a C&L plenum. Feels like a totally different car now. Highly recommended
