So my boss at work and his wife just adopted a kid...
she was born last Saturday and they were there for the birth, and took "Mariana" home. I guess some young girl took some money and decided a different home would be better for the child. My boss had been waiting a LONG time for this.

The thing that sux, and I can't understand, is that by CA law, there's a 40 day "cooling off period" I guess you'd call it, where she can actually take the baby back up to 40 days after birth. Him and his wife are totally stoked about everything, but it sux they may have to give her up if the birth mother changes her mind. I guess she was flip flopping a few times leading up to the birth...so nothings for certain

Gotta be tough to bond with a kid and then after 39 days have her taken away.

Well he has a 15 year old daughter from a previous marriage...so I'm guessing its something to do with his current wife.

I'd be on a 40 day vacation outside of the country and in a country that didn't have extradition laws.

I wonder if the money was left with an agency in escrow, rather than to the girl? There must be some sort of protection for the prospective parents.
