LAKE ELSINORE - Deputies were called out to Grand Avenue near the intersection with Jamieson Street at 1:55 a.m. Emergency personnel arrived to find a Honda Civic sheared in half and a 1998 Cadillac DeVille.

Sopheap Touch, 21, and Juan Cubias Gomez, 18, both of Lake Elsinore, were pronounced dead by emergency personnel at the crash scene.

According to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department news release, the Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Touch lost control when he tried to steer left with the road, and the car skidded.

It crossed the double yellow lines and into the path of the Cadillac, driven by Cornelius Ruff.

The crash sliced the Honda in half, and the passenger compartment flipped over onto the roof of the Cadillac, the release said.

Firefighters used equipment to extricate Rashard Wesley, 19, of Lake Elsinore, who was in the Honda's back seat.

I know that a Cadillac is a fairly heavy car compared to a Civic, but the fact that a Civic can be sliced in half in an accident doesn't inspire much confidence in me for its frame strength.
