Red face Screwed by extended warranty

So I bought my DD back in 2002, its a Auto 2000 Oldsmobile alero and at the time it had 35,000 miles with 1000 miles left to go on the factory warranty. Lady at the bank offered me an extended warranty and since the factory one only had 1000 miles left I decided to go ahead and purchase it. She specifically told me It was for 5 years from the time of me purchasing the car or 80,000 miles. Seemed good to me and I went ahead and did it.

Now fast forward to this past weekend and my transmission fails me on the freeway going home from victoria gardens 80 miles from home.
Long Story short I make it within 30 miles of home when my car would go no further and it gets towed to the local GM dealer for it to get checked out by a mechanic.
It needs a new tranny which will cost $3,000 and Im not worried since I have my extended warranty, all seems good right? WRONG turns out the warranty people dont want to pay for the tranny and they are saying the warranty started in effect in the year 2000 before I even bought the car

Ive met with the bank manager of the bank who sold me the warranty but she cant do nothing and I have one more meeting with her tommorow to see if I can get them to pay the repairs but its a 90% chance they wont and Im screwed. I still owe about 2 grand on the alero and also have the GT to pay for which Im trying to sell. Im pretty much screwed and have no idea what to do now

Cliffs-bought car in 2002 with extended warranty 5 years or 80,000 miles, lady said it started when I purchase the car, turns out they are saying it was from the time the car was built it 2000 before I even owned it and dont want to pay for my 3,000 dollar tranny

call a lawyer. that will get the bank to change their tune and I'd bet they'll be paying for it. its not your fault they're incompitent.

any extended warranty should start the day of delivery. the day you purchased the car. i would get a lawyer or at least an opinion

Even if they put it in effect in 2000, 8 years covers you to 2008, so what's the problem?????

All I can say is Fvck those cars. My ex GF had one and that thing was nothing but problems. The tranny had problems at 50k and both wheel bearing went out at 70k, the window fell into the door at 75k or so and I had to put in a new regulator, and before she left me the blower motor and blower motor resistor went out. God I hated that car.

look at ur paper work. it will say when the ext warranty starts. if it states starts on "time u bought it" then they are screwed. most ext warranty do start when u buy it. hence the EXTENSION

Actually it was probably the fault of the person who sold you the warranty, but probably will come back on your for not reading the fine print or something.

Most ext warranties, weather it be on cars, electronics, what have you most often start at the in-service date. That's not to say that there are not some that start when you buy them, but the general rule is they start at the in-service date.

I think you are right though, prob 90+% chance you're gunna be stuck with it. As far as a lawyer goes your prob still gunna be out of pocket just as much paying them even if you won the dispute unless you are on the pre-paid lawyer thing or something.

Sounds like you had to learn the hard way what the rest of us non-dipshiits consider common sense.

1. Don't buy extended warranties
2. Especially don't buy said warranties when you're too stupid to comprehend the documentation that you are signing.
3. Don't buy a bunch of cars that you can't afford.

I think that covers it.

Nope, it's the fault of the dipshiit that signed on the line. It's nobody's responsibility but YOUR OWN to make sure that you understand what you're signing.

Come on, people. This is common sense 101.
