reef tank people 7 new pics of my reef

Def getting the hang of keeping this tank, it's fully pimped out now, really can't add anything else.. I had a few fish, but the 6 line wrasse I have killed them... anything you put into the tank he kills in about 5 min... He also killed all my shrimp but the coral banded you can see in the top right, since when he tries to kill it the shimp kicks his a$$... anyway here are the pics

How long have you had it?

Get rid of the wrasse, they're ugly anyways.

Well it's one of my fav fish... he was fine, not aggressive at all until he jumped into the filter in the rear of the tank which is a rock filled 3"x3", I didn't notice, I thought he was dead for a month... So I was cleaning the tank and saw he was behind there... I fished him out and ever since that day he's been mental... Anything new comes into the tank including corals he'll just attack it, if it's something that he can kill he'll do it..

I've tried to trap him, but nothing works, he's too fast to catch and I don't want to pull the whole tank apart just to catch him...

The only option I can think of is to buy a large angler fish and drop it in there, then catch it and bring it back once the job is done... but I don't know if I want to do that... If I didn't have this wrasse I'd have some real nice fish in there

Here is an interesting pic I just snapped...

I have a shortage of empty shells big enough in the tank to house the growing hermits... about a month ago one of the hermits killed a large snail I had, and overtook its shell... now all the crabs are trying to kill him for the rights to it...

I'm going to return him as he's a little too big, and I'm going to dump a few large empty shells like this into the tank this week, as the larger crabs grab the newer sheels I'm going to just keep removing them.. huge pain in the a$$ but when they get this big they tend to be heros, like taking swings at fish and corals.. Its funny to watch sometimes 5 crabs following him around trying to do battle, he's too big to lose though, he just smashes them all

Awesome looking nano bro!

I'm actually right in the middle of filling up a 33L tank that fit on my 55gal stand. I got rid of the 55 a while ago, and a friend said I could use his 33 that would fit on my stand, so I said F it. I had some leftover sand from a previous tank, so thought I'd go ahead and fill it.

Here's the tank in the process of being filled:

It's going to sit in my dining room... Still need a dining room set, but the card table works for now

A few weeks ago, in the process of replacing the kitchen faucet with a nicer spray nozzle faucet, I installed the RODI water filtration unit. Also includes a 3 gallon drinking reservoir with a filtered water faucet. No more buying filtered water for me A seperate line goes through the De-Ionizing line and into the tank for filling.

So... Watching the pats game and starting my new tank

Damn that's a sweet setup, is it going to be a reef? If so what are you going to run for lighting?

Oh and for who asked... my tank has been running for about 9 months or so.

I'm not sure if I WANT a reef to be honest... I want something that's going to be easily maintained.

It will however have enough lighting to maintain a reef. I'm going to be running 2x54w T-5 HO Flourescents in it, which should be MORE than enough for this 33L tank. I'll run a 6500k or an 11k bulb and also a Blue Plus Actinic bulb. Should give it a nice crisp white/bluish tint.

that would be a real sick reef... my friend just built a tank to fit on his dresser which is like 5 feet long.. the tank is 5 feet long 8" tall and 6" deep, it's going to be real cool

I wouldn't buy that junk...
You've probably already checked out your local reef club, but if not: http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums...isplay.php?f=18

They're CONSTANTLY selling sh!t on that forum. Never seen a bigger bunch of reef nerds replace sh!t that still works perfectly fine.

Why not, it's got decent specs.. I mean for that price I'd imagine the fit and finish isn't as good as a $400 dollar one, but then again if it puts out the output it says, I can hone the fit.

Well, it doesn't even say what kind of ballast it uses... Magnetic ballasts get VERY hot and can burn up capacitors if the internals aren't of very good quality. I went the cheap route on a halide ballast for 250w bulbs and it would blow capacitors fairly regularly. They're tough to wire and are pretty hard to find. The good thing about magnetic ballasts is that they put out a lot more light than some electronic ballasts do. Electronic ballasts are regulated so they ONLY put out the desired wattage.

Electronic ballasts are pretty nice because they stay fairly cool, are pretty consistent, but don't fire bulbs as bright as magnetics. But with anything, electronic ballasts are finicky too. Some of them can even cause interference in your home including your TV, stereo, etc.

I'm not 100% sure on the product, but I'm biased. I've been burned on cheap sh!t before, don't want to get stuck with that again.

www.reefgeek.com usually carries some of the best stuff. If you want me to help you piece together a good setup, let me know. I could probably help you out.

Looks very good indeed!

Stay away from the aquatrader crap. You get what you pay for. I would shop around in some classified sections on some of the bigger reef boards.

You're def right, thanks for the heads up, although I still might just get it and regret it later for that price... worse case is I could buy an electronic balast, wire it in, and still be saving money.. haha
