grandpa passed away on thanksgiving day

was probably the best time to go. hes had heart complications in the last 6 months. his newly installed pace maker wasnt working correctly, and it let him down early thanksgiving day.

all i can say is im glad he went on the day he did, because he has such a big family, spread over many parts of central/northern california. an we were planning a BIG dinner at an aunts home. so hearing the news of him having a stroke that morning lets just say that the waiting room at the ccu was for sure the place to be if you were in my family.

im glad everyone was there to say their goodbyes.his last wishes were to let him go peacefully without being a burden to his family. it was a long day at the hospital, almost 9 full hours, but when he went, he went out with all the loved ones in his life there at his side.

he served his country for many years, but served his family for all his years. as some family flew his flag at half mast dusk approaching, an almost eerie, yet peaceful thing happened, the spotlight in his front yard(that lights his flag at night) suddenly went out. it was like he was saying to me, "just let me go, no need to feel any regrets or sorrow. ill go as quietly as i came". that is what i think hed say to me if he could. i know thats how hed want it.

so, thanksgiving dinner came a day late, but i was happy to be there, considering it was about 150 miles away, it may have been easier to stay here at home for the holiday, but at least i wont burden myself with the remorse of not being there when he went. as he was like a father, rolemodel, and a hero in my eyes, always did good at his own expense.

the world got a lil bit more lonely

Sorry mang...and great advice...you gotta take life for all it can give you, its far too short. I feel bad for those who take it for granted.
