If you had a family member that worked for Chevy...

Would you still buy one?

Going to be due for a new car in the next few months and I'm trying to get a grasp now on what we *my wife to be, and I* may want to look into. Her brother works at a Chevy dealership as a technician, so we were thinking of getting into a Chevy or GM for some family pricing and cheap/free shop labor.

Now, I'm no Chevy fan and have never owned one in my entire life. Are there any Chevy/GM vehicles out there worth looking into? I'm mildly interested in the Impala SS with 300HP and 25ish MPG with leather, 18" wheels, etc. The car will have to be FWD or AWD at LEAST and be comfortable. No more uncomfy, loud, and obnoxious cars. I'm getting old

I'd really like to get into a 3 series XI, or maybe even an X3 if price/leasing agreements are decent with their unlimited bumper-bumper warrantee. Our BMW dealer is top-notch and the service would be free (for at least 4 years).

WWMWD?

My family has had the GM discount my whole life. (my dad retired from GM)

I have used that discount exactly once.

What about an SS T-blazer? You get the best of both worlds, decent performance, good interior, good looks, etc. They can be bought for cheap new now.

The 07 AWD versions shouldn't/won't have the same rear end prollem I'm having, because they now have a new updated case with looser clutch packs.

I'd consider one, but the gas would probably kill
Do the new TB SS's have the same engine management as the impala? If so, that'd sell me.

nope, no displacement on demand. I get about 14mpg around town, and about 19mpg on the highway. It actually gets the same if not slightly better mileage than my regular trailblazer with an I-6 got.

but ya gotta remember, its got an LS-2 and weighs like 5,500lbs.

Meh, not gonna fork $40k for one... If they came in the Xi trim, I might bite. But it'd be more like a nibble at that price.

There's not one family car that GM makes that I'd even consider buying right now.

Here is a link to an E-bay auction selling an Impala SS (only used it for actual pictures)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007...1QQcmdZViewItem

It doesn't look terrible... Actually looks pretty plush. And for 300HP with 27mpg highway, that's decent IMO. Exterior styling is not cutting edge, but I think I'd pick one of these up over the Camry. Not really sure why, I'd have to look into it more.

I can get GM Partner pricing through work, and I got and ID and I check from time to time. So far, no deals on Z06's, which is the only Chevy I'm interested in.

Ed

How quickly/easily can you check?
This all may be put to bed if there aren't any decent deals on this Impala SS or Tahoe. I guess the Tahoe has the Displacement on Demand Active Fuel Management as well... But a loaded Tahoe is gonna be as much as a BMW 335 I'd imagine

Depending on which discount applies to you, it would be 1% under invoice or 4% over dealer cost. I think. The discount applies to all GM vehicles expect z06, Hummer, and v-series Cadillacs.
What about a Cadillac CTS.

If i were a young guy I'd look at a cobalt SS supercharged. The new saturn aura is nice for a 4 door nicely appointed sedan. I like the impala SS and TB SS as mentioned. The new saturn outlook looks really nice.

Theri new v6s seem to be thumping out some decent power, so maybe a G6 with one of those would be fun..g6 gtp with 252 hp.

CTS is a definite possibility.

They FWD though? Needs to be FWD or AWD.
