Getting ready to buy first car....

So, the time to purchase my first car is soon approaching, and I STILL havent decided on what I want! So, I know i've asked A few of these questions before, but whatever. First, the cars that I am deciding between at the moment are.... A 99 GT(Cobra if money allows, but probobly wont), or A 96-98 Cobra. So, between the two, what would YOU reccomend? And performance wise, Who takes the cake? 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, cornering, handling, etc.... And just over-all value for the money. I know its my first car, and I wont be street racing, but I do want to be able to hold my own against the honda's.... God how I hate ricers.... But, thanks in advance, all input is appreciated. OH YEAH, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

99+ GT > 96-98 cobra IMO... Some might say otherwhise... Ive seen a 99 cobra with 28k miles i think going for $10k so its not out of the realm of possibility. I know when i bought my first car, i got a '94 5.0, it was a hastey and impulsive buy. Shop around, trust me, you'll find a good deal.

Thanks for the help man the plan is to TRY to get either a 99 Cobra, OR a 99 turbo'd or sc GT. I just saw a niceturbo's GT in the classifieds, but it was 13,500$, and its silver.... I would much rather get White. Silver is my second choice

What year turbo GT, if the miles are decent and it has a built bottom end to handle a good size turbo then I'd go for it. Check out www.turbomustangs.com/forums and do some research, that's what I did. You could have some CRAZY power if it's done right.

depends what ya want outta the car really. a 96-98 4v is a few tick faster than the 99 gts and in theory has more potential to put out bigger numbers if you put the money into it. it also has a better highway pull than the gt, and the motor is much nicer to look at than the 2v.

the 99+ gts are cool cars no doubt. they are cheaper to modify, and have a better lowend grunt than the 4v. imo a 99 cobra would be the best option in your case, but if you cant afford one, id say pick the bodystyle which you like best since theyre similar for 1/4 mile times. if you plan on modifying it, go with the gt since it sounds like you dont have a lot of money and the gts are cheaper to modify. and lastly if you plan on doing highway rolls go with the 4v for sure

if you'r going to get a cobra at least go 99, they have IRS. otherwise you might as well go 99+GT.

thats why i like the Cobra's, the top end. my favorite thing to do is cruise(drive rally really fast, for no erason at-all) on the highway. and the IRS to boost(go really really fast around corners)....

get a 96 V6, and get a supercharger.

Cheap + good gas milage + exhaust = good as a GT

I'd get the 96-98 cobra then slap a Master Power T70 turbo on it and call it quits.

I agree. I think a stock suspension stang with anymore than stock power is ****ing ridiculous. I am not sure what ford were thinking when they put the car together. Normal people try and at least get the role center close to the same front a rear. A stock stang is almost too low at the front, as is almost on the ground, and close to the license plate in the rear. I think its retarded.
I am scared to think what my car would be like with the stock suspension.

oh and I might have been drinking this evening
