A few readers sent in some tricks of tripping the lights using the crosswalk button. However, after posting it, I received several letters telling me it was a Hoax, put on by our friends over at bbspot.com. Well, I decided that I should probably give it a shot before blindly believing anyone. =) I can tell you that this "Crosswalk button hack" is a hoax, sorry for misleading you! I was tricked!

I saw that too, and figured as much after reading the original thread about that one.

This MIRT thing though....I KNOW emergency vehicles have such thing in some places, so that one seems more probable to actually work.

high beams don't do anything....it's a common misconception

if the light changes it's because of the sensors on the ground that you don't realize but you trigger them 200' or so from the intersection (they're also right at the stopline too)....by the time you flash your high beams you already triggered the lights to change by driving....so people think the highbeam trick works

try high beaming at an intersection with no weight sensors on the asphalt

usually at a sensored/signalized intersection, the main street stays on green....if you approach from the crossing street, if it doesn't detect cars on the main street, it switches for you....if it does detect cars, it usually waits a few more seconds

sorry man, a majority of the lights in the area are timed and one way streets, so there is no one coming the other way to blind, and late at night there is no one else around. the lights here are pretty old though, which is probably why it works.

and cookiemonster, its only illegal if you get caught

nah dude...pretty sure it's a fact

high beams don't work....on any traffic signal

older signals, if anything, had actual motion sensors...

i learned it in my traffic engineering classes, also the instructor when i got my ticket and went to class told us the same thing, and so did my cop friend...

so you're saying that if you go during the day time, then you won't be able to trigger them?
