Ive noticed in the past week in the 96 slowbra a light in the far right hand corner of the dash thats amber that looks like a trash can with an X on it comes on. When I really get high into the rpms it comes on and stays on for a while and then goes back off (father says it looks like a battery with an X on it). Now its been doing this off and on all last week. Today was no exception it did it again but this time the CEL light came on too and stayed on and the trash can light came on and off on and off while driving tonight. I think its an O2 sensor because Im getting crappy milage on a stock 96 cobra, stock rear end gears and all. 1st time I checked milage (all highway) I got 21, friday night I filled up and checked again, all highway milage and got 20. Tommarow when I get to school Im gonna scan the computer and see what it turns up with, any ideaS?

Hm, coolant is full? The temp guage never gets to normal temp, when it does get warm the needle stays rightover top of the N on normal. I drove the car easier and did not as fast/hard as I did last tank.

The low coolant light sometimes just means that the sensor is screwed up, it's a common problem. Clean up the sensor or replace it.

Hey matt, thats a common problem for the 96 Cobra's b/c my friend has a black 96 Cobra and his coolant lights comes on/off all the time, he told me that the thing that floats in the overflow tank gets stuck at the bottom therefore those lights..

Haha glad to hear its normal, but I really do think the car is suppose to get a little better milage. I can smell it sometimes, maybe its running a tad bit rich. Im just really particular about things, I bought this car (and the other) by the blood sweat and loss of sleep of the last couple years of my life and all the gas and insurance on it so the little things get me worried because it takes so long and so much work to make it. No mods yet, back tires have to come 1st, theyre BBald. Anyways, at school this morning we scanned the computer and it found no codes? Scanned it again, no codes but the light was still on. So unhooked the - battery cable and ive drivin it 30-40 miles since then and the check engine light hasnt came back on but the coolant light did. Im thinking maybe the coolant light tripped the cel light?

My coolant light will come on unless that damn reservoir is 100% completely full, no worries. There's a chance the 2 lights coincide, but I doubt it. Get it tuned and you'll get better mileage.
