Watched a dog die today.....

First off Im an animal lover.....

On the way into work I saw the same stray australian shepard for the second day in a row. So I pulled over, and he came running up like a happy little guy. So I check for tags, there was none, but it was obvious he broke off his chain. So I scoot his ass away from the street and say "you better stay outta the street, move on." Normally I would have taken him in but I was on the way to a 12 hour shift.

Well, not even 30 minutes later a lady from work says she hit a black dog down the road and it was trying to get up and she didnt know what to do. I knew somehow it was that same dog I thought about saving early on. So all the guys stand around cracking jokes that she should go stomp on its head, and bullsh!t to that degree. No one wants to do anything so I call the humane society right away, and run upstairs and grab a fellow co-worker that I knew was a dog lover and an animal rights activist.

We run down the road, get out of the car, and what do ya know? it happened to be the same dog I came across earlier. This time he was all fvcked up barely holding on. I comforted him as I watched the last bit of life leave him.

Next time I see a stray im going to pull over and grab him, regardless whether im on the way to work or not.

I dont know about most people but I hold dogs to a higher regard. More so than humans in a lot of ways that dogs love for NO FVCKING REASON at all. That and you cannot buy loyalty from a human that a dog portrays.

Im rambling on but watching that dog die did fvck with me a little today. All the "hardasses" at work got their kicks about me being upset about their crude comments.......but what can you do.

/end rant

I agree with ya man. I love dogs a lot and have had many. Reminds me not to take my old dog at my house for granted that she will always be here.

And for that dog, RIP. Why would your co-worker hit it and then just leave it there?

We got my old dog from a family who's son was driving home from work one day and saw some jackass stop on side of the road and throw her out. He took her home, but they didn't have room for another pet, and put her up for adoption. It was obvious she had been abused, and it took her a good 5 years to not be scared around us.

What about the dogs that run up to strangers and attack them? Where's the love there?

My wife and I have fostered 4 unwanted dogs, 2 ferrets, and a cat as well as stopped and picked up stray dogs on the side of the road, usually at the cost of our current plans being delayed. An inconvenience? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. It helps having a fenced in yard to keep some of them in until we found the owners.

Don't blame yourself. Things happen. At least you were there to comfort the dog while it passed.

I hate dogs. I'd have taken great pleasure in watching that mongrel die. In fact, I really, REALLY wish I could watch my neighbor's annoying ass dog die about now. It's been barking nonstop all fvcking day.
