More construction pics... and SoCal/OC > *

(video added at bottom)

Here's some pics of a little addition I'm doing on a house
in Laguna Niguel. IMO, the house isn't anything spectacular,
but the view is niiice. And the neighborhood in general
is pretty sweet.

Approaching the house:

Those skylights are motorized:

View from the other side:

New "sky bar" above the living room:

Standing upstairs at the skybar... killer view out those doors:

I hope they paint it when they're done... that color is hideous.

SoCal

EDIT: Here's a vid of the view from the balcony outside the sky bar.

You don't have your OSHA required kicker on the bottom of those railings.

I figure it just weeds out the people who really shouldn't be doing construction if you leave the rails out completely.

Hmm... I don't know the exact number.
They're doing some pretty fancy finishes inside that might drive the cost up.
I know he's putting some 2000-pound iron gates in at the front door, for example.

I'm guessing $500k-$750k.

So Cal > *

I said it, and I've lived in NorCal all my life.

I'd kill for a house like that with that view.

This current/ending 'boom' has made it rediculous around my area. I am just starting a simple update/cosmetic changes to an older commercial building > $75k and out of all the 'contractors' that looked at the project, there was only one other guy that said he would get a permit (2 inspected items). Everyone else told the owner they would just do it without permits/after city hours.

There was one guy that came in 1/10 of our actual price, we are doing cost plus so we were sitting there going over all the bids with the owner. In other words, the guy would have taken the money and skipped town.

On a side note, the city is making me get engineering on a 6' porch!!! Only reason, it is a commercial property. Pisses me off that I have to waste time with that.
