Alfdog e-Playa Join Date: Jul 2001 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 83,685	5-Year-Old Protects Brother, Grabs Rabid Fox Child Now Undergoing Treatment POSTED: 3:45 am PDT July 5, 2007 KINGSTOWN, N.C. -- A 5-year-old North Carolina boy grabbed a rabid fox by the neck and pinned it to the ground during a family cookout, protecting six other children before his stepfather could kill the animal. "I wanted to protect my little brother," Rayshun McDowell said. It happened Sunday in the front yard of the McDowell's home in Kingston, about 50 miles west of Charlotte. Rayshun got bit in the leg but the 61-pound boy still held the fox down for more than a minute until his stepfather could get there and kill the animal. Test results confirm the fox had rabies and the boy is now getting treatment. His mother said she looked out the window and saw that Rayshun had the fox by the neck and was pushing it into the ground. As she put it, "I couldn't believe what I was seeing." Rayshun's stepfather, Ryan Thompson, pulled the boy off the animal and kicked it. A neighbor fired a handgun three times but the fox continued to advance.
