Drewski- before I get the run around by a DirecTv operator, thought I'd check w/ you

Have read the other threads and appreciated your help.

Place I'm moving has a directv dish currently mounted and cable run to where we'd be installing, they used this for their tv service. I read something over my head technically about a new dish for the new Satellite? In order to get the latest in HD offerings is there a 'new dish' that I should be purchasing/getting for free? Or will a ~7 year old (guessing) 'normal looking' dish do the exact same thing and the only difference is the new HD DVR box?

Also- should I be scouring the fatwallet/slickdeals of the net to find 'coupon codes' or negotiation tactics on price/length of commitment, etc, or is this like the Verizon store where the price listed and contract length is what it is and everyone pays that?

Thanks, looking forward to getting my pr0n ppv from outer space.

Are you upgrading to HD at the new house?
Also, there is a dish specific to HD programming. I doubt that 7 year dish will be able to handle HD. You would need to speak with DirectTV, let them know you are moving and are wanting to upgrade to HD. They will install the new HD dish at the new house and use the existing cables. It will be free installation and refuse to pay $100 for the HD/DVR box.

don't have DTV, and never have. Will be getting HD, the current house I don't believe had HD but has a DTV dish mounted and cable run (don't know if it's the same cable, but ideally only a dish replacement/alignment would necessary)

They want $199 or the DVR box per the website, that's something negotiable?

glad to see you pulling the trigger mr. numbers. you are making the the right choice.

the old dish won't cut it. you will need a Ka/Ku dish (known as the "slimline dish"). this one has 5 LNBs to point to the main orbital slots (101, 110 & 119), plus the 2 new slots (99 & 103). the installation should include the new dish, a wideband multiswitch, a b-band converter, and one of the new MPEG4 receivers (H20, HR20, etc.).

if you haven't already placed your order, PM me...i have some "info" that might be helpful

Okay, look for deals out there that have the free HD receiver and 3 regualr receivers and install for free.

Yea they ended up canceling my install I setup an install from Dish but DAMN its alot more expensive a month.. I am thinking about canceling the DISH install and trying DTV again in a month or so and seeing if a different installer can figure out how to install a 5LNB without a perminate mounting system..

just like i said in that previous thread. but, it could be a policy/code thing with the installation company. there is only one type of Ka/Ku mount that doesn't require the use of monopoles (they're like kickstands to provide additional bracing). you might want to inquire about using the S-mount (which requires installation on a corner).

cool... this complex is about 2500 units or more.. Its a HUGE neighborhood with everything from 1 beds.. to townhouses like I have to condos you can buy.. I am going to walk around and see if I can locate any 5LNBs and see how they set them up...
