noise coming from front driver side wheel...
Ive been hearing a noise from the driver side front wheel and just came back after getting it diagnostics. I asked them to lube any part that might have been making the noise after doing so, its okay now, but they found a few things.
They're saying, there is a rubber bushing that's on the 'rack and pin'. This is used with automatic steering (not sure exactly where). There are rubber bushings that are becoming hard after time and are beginning to crack. These will need to be replaced. The other issue is they need to replace the lower ball joints on the car, because these are making the squeaky noise. Question is, has anyone experienced this? If so, the total is coming out to ~$1000 because the labor cost would be $670 for both. Is this something I can do myself? If given directions I can do it but I just figured to ask if this need to be done by a mechanic. Thanks.

The first set of bushings are called Steering Rack Bushings. Very common issue. For the Ball Joints, are you planning on lowering the car? If so replace them with a set of Steeda X2 Ball JOints as they are designed to help geometry in lowered cars.
Let me know if I can help you out any further.

Urethane Rack Bushings run about 35.00 shipped. Can be installed with some basic hand tools in a few hours. Will deffinitely help. Ball Joints are more involved.

My ball joints also made noise so I got a grease needle and shot some grease in them (since the factory did not put zerk fittings in them). I have since added a zerk fitting so I can grease them as needed. The squeak has not come back in 40K miles

Nice, looks like I can take care of the Steering Rack Bushings. I might need to take the car to the shop for lower ball joints.
I think the shop also greased the ball joints because they stopped makeing noise now. :-) Thanks for the help!
