We were tied for 3rd last year in Goals Per Game.

Our worst players ALL LEFT (may, turgeon, breezebye)...

And we replaced them with 2 of the top free agents that were available in Smyth and Hannan.

And we get a healthy Jordan Leopold this year.. We finished 15-2-2 with the old team... now look.... hmmmm...

When I was watching ESPN News earlier today and saw that on the ticker I thought to my self how washed up that guy is, and has played for 4 different teams in four years.

They get a deal on Thornton taking a pay cut, really, and then go right back out and give away money to Marleau.. 12.6 for 2 more years after his playoff last year?? Are you kidding me?? Dude fell off the fvcking wrong side of the bed one morning and vanished into nothing, and finished with the big goose egg. Oi.

They better hope he scores some big points for them this playoff, that's a lot of money for somebody who hasn't led his team very far. Ever.

so marleau has a bad series against detroit, and all of a sudden he's only a 3 or 4 million/year player? gtfo of here. he's still only making 4.5 this year, and they could always trade him before his ntc kicks in next summer if he 'vanishes into nothing' Considering he could probably pull 7+ on the open market, I'll take him over guys like gomez or briere. Hell, if they really thought drury would've been a better choice, they could've overpaid him and traded marleau. Too bad you're not the sharks gm, they would've won 10 cups by now.

No, i'm saying by pulling that vanishing act last season, it doesn't warrant a motherfvcking 2.1m/year raise..

You'd take Marleau over Briere or Drury? How many times has Marleau led the Sharks, who arguably have just as good a team, to the conference finals? He's just not clutch like Drury or Briere. There's a reason they score goals with 2 seconds left in HUGE playoff games, or make the pass or play to set up the come from behind goal, etc. etc..

That's reason #1 the Avalanche won the cup in 2001, without that kid named Drury making the clutch moves he did, we lose.

And if I were the Sharks GM, Marleau would have been gone at least 3 or 4 years ago. They did the right thing by getting rid of Owen Nolan, even as a fan favorite, when they realized he wasn't the right guy to get the job done as captain, and it's painfully obvious that his tenure has gone long enough w/o any serious results. I mean, REALLY, how many more fvcking skilled players and money can you put around this fvcking idiot before he steps up and fvcking does something???

Get him the fvck out of SJ, it'll do you guys well. Trade him straight up for Iggy.

who are these skilled players that marleau keeps getting paired with? Two years ago he played mostly with two rookies, michalek and bernier. This last year, he played with pavelski, bell, clowe, and forced to play with guerin at the end of the year. None of those guys are established players in their own right.

We'll see how briere and his 10 mil salary work out this year for philly. And boy did drury and briere sure work out for buffalo last year. The sabres did a good thing in letting their 'clutch' players be overpaid by struggling franchises that need a glimmer of hope.

If the coaches can't get their best players on the ice together, then that's uhh, their faults, I would imagine. How many times a game do I see Sakic get switched around? Oh man.. Seems like the sharks coaches are so reluctant to switch lines on the fly.. dunno.

Are you saying the Sharks don't have any good players that can skate with Marleau?

No, they one upped the Sharks by signing junkies now. Mark Bell was placed into the NHL's substance abuse program and suspended.

Dude I know you're a huge Drury nutswinger and he is a good player but the Avs still would have won the cup without him that year. Tanguay, Sakic, Hejduk and Forsberg were the core forwards who got them there. Not to mention the checking and penalty killing of Yelle and Reid and they weren't too shabby on the blueline either.

Drury is good but he's not great and he'll never lead a team to the cup without the help of a Briere and now in NY, Shanny, Jagr and Gomez.

I hate the Rangers and wouldn't say they are desperate by any means. THey have a solid team.

Totally diff types of players that are being compared here. Totally diff time in their careers and levels as well. GOod signing for the Sharks. I was hoping the Habs could have dealth for him.

I hope Roenick gets hit so hard he has to drink from a straw the rest of his life and miss out on the attention whore TV job he covets so much.

Every time I saw him on TV I wanted Patrick Roy to be at the end of the broadcast booth saying "I can't hear you with my stanley cup rings in my ears"
