Jetta TDi or Fusion?

Girlfriend is looking for a new car. We test drove a tdi and a fusion tonight, shed like something with good mileage (tdi) and is partial to the tdi after driving it, but the fusion with my grandpa's z plan discount would be about $6k less.

Thoughts?

Fusions have come a very long way.... Tough decision man. I've spent some time in the new TDi and I really enjoyed it. I have always been a fan of VWs so I'd probably sway my vote towards it.

What's the mpg of the jetta, what's the mpg of the fusion, how long would it take driving xxx average miles / year to make up 6000 dollars worth of difference between the two?

I believe the diesels are more reliable, at least engine wise

VW's are plagued with electrical issues. Not all models though but I'd still go for the TDI.

Engine wasn't the problem on all the other VW's my friends owned. Electrical problems, taillight problems and the front bumpers falling off etc

Funny how VW is regarded as some higher-end machine and priced according so in Europe (okay they do have pretty good quality interiors), yet in America they're regarded as AIDS pieces of sh1t.

I bought an 06 Fusion SE a few weeks ago for a DD and so far I really like it, but I've always liked the looks of the '10's so I will probably end up with one as soon as they start showing up at the auctions.

True. But every person I know that has stepped into a Ford within the past two model years is like "Damn this is nice"

Ford's build quality really came a long way from 4-5 years ago. Many car companies are just updating their bodies, interiors and keeping everything else the same.

The Fusion is the better deal easily. But chances are she will end up with a Jetta because its "cuter" than the Fusion

That's one reason why she likes the TDi, plus it was actually pretty quick off the line and when passing other cars. That diesel has some pretty damn good torque, even through that DSG 6 speed auto.
