You can actually upgrade/rebuild them fairly cheap using certain 4R75W/E parts and will have a pretty stout transmission as a result.

EDIT: you have a 2000 4R70W so you are already ahead. You have a hardened input/stub shaft and the wide ratio gear set with the one way mechanical diode. Really all you would need is a basic rebuild with better clutches and a front band. You might want to consider a deeper pan as well.

If you need a good rebuild kit PM me and I'll show ya what I had put in.
Post up a how-to on building it as well, I'm interested

if you cant afford a converter, just slap the thing in how it is, building a nice trans with a stock converter isnt worth the time of doing it IMO

smaller converter has smaller fins. the smaller the fins the more torque they can take before breaking but it also moves the stall up higher. short and simple explanation.

i dug up some crap

http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/...82a6108f6403ca

seems reasonable at 375

theres this for 575 too
http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/...82a6108f6403ca

the plan is to sell my taurus for 1k and use it to get the mustang running

its in mexico at my grandmas right now =X gonna get a cheap rebuild on the engine and put in the 4r70w on there so I can drive it around. I think I need a converter, but want something that will eventually hold 450hp max

im gonna daily drive it and not really planning on beating on it all the time

im getting the stock engine rebuilt in mexico for 400 bucks

now from my understanding a torque converter is different on every car and I will need a custom one as the LAST thing?

Gotta love the cheap labor. What part of Mexico?

I see they let you back in Tech. How's the Mustang doing? You get the engine done finally?

Like I told you a while ago, if I were you I'd just worry about getting it running so you can drive it around for a while. After you have some money saved up, go for the turbo and trans :coo2:

Edit: I got some stuff for sale you could use, it's some stuff for my 94 before I sold it.

Good luck with that (Tijuana and the trans)

Take 95 Bullitt's advice, man. These transmissions are pretty good, just make sure you have a professional do the work

My problem with 4r70W trannies?

I've been trying to get some feedback as to how they behave, and how big a pain in the ass they are to add to a vehicle not originally equipped (in the ECM department) with one. I have two suppliers for a tranny control computer (Baumann and some other schmoe), however, while several people have claimed to have installed these computers, as with several thousand examples, nobody hardly ever bothers to actually show their work as to how they got from 'arriving today' to 'driving today'....and if you ask them questions, they reply with 'well, I just did it'....I'd like to toss a 4R70W into my '92 T-bird 5.0, as I'm a bit sick of the AOD that's in it....but I've not found a single, reliable contact outside of either Baumann or that other schmoe to get some feedback as to how the finished product turned out.

Oh well, rant off.

I can relate That's why it's called 'hot rodding'

If I were you, I would "just do it". If you have the tools and equipment, mock up everything and see what works and what doesn't, i.e., mounts and lines. Also, since it's a 5.0 I would use a Mustang ECM and call up Baumann to see if they can give any advice. Best of luck.
