Regulatory news out of China yesterday caused many cryptocurrencies to dip a bit, creating an excellent time to buy back in.

They look to be recovering today.

If you don't think that bitcoin is a bubble, you're a mentalist and should have your head examined.

Any issues mining?

It's def tradable, but the risk/reward investing is pretty compelling. Better off not stepping off the train.

I saw the price on my phone this afternoon (Coinbase widget) and knew that the balance I keep on GDAX to swing trade sold today. I bought it about a month ago at $4300

I'll buy back in when it dips.

What I keep in cold storage is used for a HODL strategy.

Checked today, freaking little bit I mined is now worth nearly $800

Damn wish I had a time machine for stuff like this. Just should have left it mining back then until I had a full BTC back when. Or hell, bought like 1000 of them when it was $12.

Now even Etherium is looking to follow and surpass BTC in the long run since it is able to be used for more than just hashing.

The Bitcoin Wallet app on my phone has the current trading value in USD. It's well above $800 for what I have.

That's not what I meant. Sounds like you have mined .15 BTC, which means you also have .15 BCH which is another 50 bucks.

Ya so in August 2017 Bitcoin split into 2 coins. So if you had 1 Bitcoin before that date, you now also own 1 Bitcoin Cash coin automatically. 1 Bitcoin cash = $320.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-cash/

More splits coming soon...

Oh crap. Gotta look into that more but cool either way. Um, if the split happened, how the heck do I access my Bitcoin Cash?

What's the coin to get into right now if you wanted to buy a few before they rise? BTC Cash? Or Etherium, or one of the other more fancy new ones just starting out I wonder.

Some of the new ones called Golem Coins sound interesting as well as a sort of Cloud Computing currency I heard about in a podcast.

How someone sophisticated enough to hold bitcoin would be dumb enough to sell them for a fraction of what they are worth due to buyers backing out is beyond me but good work catching lightning in a bottle.

Dimon apparently did a pseudo 180 on bitcoin this week then shat on it again.

My position on crypto currency is that for now there is obviously massive speculative opportunity especially with icos and smaller coins.

Long term I think caution is warranted. Despite limits on specific coin production there is no limit to the creation of new coins. Also the history of each coin or portion thereof has a history which could present an opportunity for a tax witch hunt. Forget about the advent of quantum computing. Forget about the fact that the majority of bitcoins are held by a relatively small number of players ( there has been wash trading allegations with it for years ).

My position can be summed up in 2 points:

1) the blockchain and cryptos are the future so at very least learn about them if you dont want to jump into them whole hog. Long term it will help you and short term you can make some money.

2) Stay vigilant because as soon as central banks / govts have a method or technology to manipulate them or punish those that use them, they will.

In the meantime it is almost like shooting fish in a barrel.

You know the old adage that says, "if your barber is telling you about stocks you should buy, then the cat is out of the bag and you should sell"?

Yeah...when someone as dumb ass theo is whole hog in this, I think it's a good time to reevaluate.

That's the billion dollar question, there are so many scam coins in the space it's tough to know. My favorite one is bitcoin, it's the first, the largest and has a ton of support.

The Dollar Vigilante has a great track record, recommended bitcoin at $3 and ethereum at $2. One of his latest recommendations is EOS. Check out his videos at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCtPaLC0_RI

Bitcoin was created so gay prostitutes in North Korea could get paid without it being traceable. Then a collective delusion took off from there.

"This is an updated version of A Bitcoin Beginner's Guide to Surviving a Coin-Split specifically addressing issues associated with the upcoming Bitcoin Gold and SegWit2x forks.

It looks as if Bitcoin will experience at least two more “coin-splits” soon, which (more accurately) will result in the creation of new coins. On October 25, Bitcoin Gold (Bgold) will split off from Bitcoin to create an ASIC-resistant cryptocurrency. A few weeks later, a significant group of Bitcoin companies wants to hard fork according to the SegWit2x plan as defined in the “New York Agreement” (NYA), which will probably result in yet another new coin.

If this all plays out, there could be three distinct blockchains and three types of coins within about a month of publication of this article. One blockchain would follow the current Bitcoin protocol; for the purpose of this article, that coin will be referred to as “BTC.” The second blockchain will follow the Bgold protocol; in this article, that coin will be referred to as “BTG.” The third blockchain will follow the SegWit2x protocol; that coin will be referred to as “B2X.”"

Wall Street strategist Tom Lee recommends risky over-the-counter bitcoin trust

"Lee said Wednesday he sees GBTC rising nearly 250 percent or more by 2022 if bitcoin reaches his $25,000 target for that date. Bitcoin traded little changed on the day around $5,524 Wednesday, according to CoinDesk.

"The bitcoin investment trust, GBTC, is essentially the only 'game in town' if a U.S.-based investor wants to gain exposure to bitcoin via an exchange-listed instrument (there are ETNs in Europe as well)," Lee wrote Wednesday. "Investors have underestimated [net asset value] because they overlook the $31 worth of bitcoin cash (BCH) and $22 worth of bitcoin gold (BTG) held by GBTC.""

Bitcoin Price Will Have ‘No Difficulty’ Hitting $10k, With 30,000 New Wallets a Day: Max Keiser

"Keiser meanwhile remains steadfast in his prediction of an easy ride to $10,000 per Bitcoin, reiterating his long-term target since 2011 being ten times that - $100,000.

Anyone who thinks otherwise, he wrote on Twitter Monday, “has not been paying attention.”

Bitcoin prices reached a new all-time high of $6,300 Sunday before tailing off to hover around $6,110 at press time."
