Thumbs up Apparently Hertz doesn't check the rear tires of their GT-H rentals....

when they get them back....

or I wouldn't think he would be doing that.....

you would think they would have the t/c be on all the time or something.

There will be changes made to there rental programs. It is very well known by them that a Championship FFW driver did jusdt that. He went to races with rental cars and beat the hell otu of them. Evidently he had words with a few people and they rolled the bus over him.

I know you can sometimes pull the ABS/T/C fuse....is that what he did? Otherwise burning out would be impossible.

not sure. ford may not have the system set up very aggressively. he might have pulled a fuse. Ford claims to have the system on all the mustangs set up to allow burnouts, but then detect slip and engage in wet weather. not sure how true it is as i havent tried to burn out with it on in my car.

in any case, you cannot turn off the traction control on a GT-H. its also only available in an auto. those are the two major differences between it and the new Shelby GT.

couple relevant quotes from a recent IGN article (not the best source (especially since the drivers are a bunch of kids that grew up driving civics), but i just read it and knew these were here):

Quote:
However, even with the traction control (TCS) on, we were able to get a nice controlled burnout upon starting and we were even able to use the throttle to get the back end to step out. The Ford test driver we spoke with said that the Shelby GT500 was tuned to give enthusiasts what they wanted -- even if the TCS was turned on. Nice.

Quote:
The Mustang Shelby GT is just like the now-famous Hertz Shelby GT-H -- only better. In addition to actually being able to buy the thing, the Shelby GT also comes with a TCS-off button and a proper manual transmission.

Quote:
There are a couple of obvious reasons for this, and they all stem from the fact that the GT-H is a rental car first, sporty car second. Hertz can't let some ham-fisted, overpaid exec suffering a second (or third) mid-life crisis to go out and rent this car with the hopes of reliving some kind of James Dean street-racing fantasy, so the company kind of neutered the car. First off, the TCS can't be disabled. Secondly, the car is only available with an automatic transmission.

a) get in your car and try some burnouts and report back....
b) he musta pulled the fuse......

The one I rented in Indiana roasted tires on demand.
I cleared a parking lot with smoke at a local small business
The Hertz guy was more concerned wit stickers and engine cable but he did see some little balls of rubber in the wheelwell. He just gave me a dirty look along with the receipt

T/C only works when your wheels are spinning at different speeds. If his rear wheels are both spinning at the same speed, t/c won't do ****.

any car that I have been in with T/C stops the wheels from spinning no matter what. It senses wheel spin, and stops it. This includes a 2003 GT, and a 2001 Firehawk (only as rwd examples). My stang doens't have T/C, but it is equipped stock with melt-on-demand.

edit: maybe in the autos when it sense your foot on the brake and gas at the same time it turns off.....but if you floor it off the line, T/C should activate....if it doesn't then why even have it?
