Best clutch replacement - Mustang Forum

I have a 2000 gt and i want to replace the clutch. Its a daily driver and i really don't want to spend over $200.00.

Spec here!

Anderson's King Cobra was a good clutch as well for under $200 over 5 years ago.

just put a spec in mine a few months ago, i'm happy with it. car shook like a mvtherfvcker for the first few hundred miles until it was broken in, now its fine. have about a thousand miles on it so far.

When they shake on engagement that means the flywheel needs to be turned I do believe.

Is the disc sprung or solid?

And my vote is for Stage 3 McLeod coupled with a Fidanza alum FW or a Billet steel FW. I've had my McLeod now for 8 years with a sh*t load of passes at the track with out fail.

I have been running the Spec II+ for over a year now and I love it. Same pedal as stock but up to 450 hp support.

i have no idea. and a stage 3 clutch would be WAY to much for a stock or near stock GT, which is what it sounds like the OP has. i have a simple spec stage 1 for my car with minor bolt ons.

I have to disagree. The way most stage 2 and stage 3 clutches feel these days (pedal pressure vs. engagement) they are very stock feeling. My stage 3 might have slightly more pedal pressure than stock. If the cost is near the same, why not go with a beefier clutch? Even a stock GT can eventually make a stock clutch slip.

they don't make the cobra clutch anymore, that's why i went spec

Really, I haven't heard that. I was going to get a Spec unit back when I was looking at clutches, but at the time they were having some serioues quality issues, so I went McLeod.

Well for the price he is asking to get one, stage two's and three's are out of the question. Ram makes a good replacement, pretty much the cobra clutch, and yes.. my stock clutch held my car at 380 hp, then at 480, did it finally start to slip, yes but with 90k's on it.. went with the ram hd, holds 550 and was great...

the ford racing clutch is junk, I would recommend a spec stage 1 or entry level clutch from centerforce or mcleod. I have had a spec stage 2 and beat the hell out of it, it never gave an inch. but it had alot of clutch chatter, as does my current stage 2. yes the flywheels were resurfaced.

yup, i went on FRPP's website to order the cobra clutch and it's been discontinued. i don't know if they're making it again, but as of august it was out of production.

I realize way over kill and way over price range...but my car has the mcleod RXT twin disk and the pedal feel is unbelievably light, practically as light as the hydraulic clutches from my two vettes. It is a flat out amazing clutch with superior low speed drivability. It is ten times lighter feel than a factory 03/04 cobra clutch and holds 700hp no problem. Mcleod for da win

Perhaps too many quality issues and they were just tired of dealing with it... Doesn't VIA make the King Cobra anyways, or at least used to?

And to the OP, go back with a stock clutch... However the bad thing with that is, stock costs more than an aftermarket stage 2 clutch.

ill sell you a mcleod clutch and pressure plate for the t45 for cheap. its like new, 0 miles. mounted it in the car, then decided i wanted a 6spd, pulled it back out and its just been sitting in a box for 3 years...
