What the hel*

I went to add a little oil this morning and I noticed this white, frothy looking stuff in the filler neck and all over the bottom of the cap. It has the consistency of a hand cleaner like goop or that orange stuff. It looks like it is coming from the line that runs from the top of the throttle body to the filler neck. What the heck is it? Is it normal?

Second... are roller rockers supposed to be a little noisy?

89 lx with h/c/i swap... bigger injectors/meter/throttle body... and spray (but I haven't sprayed the car yet)

One of 2 issues....intake gasket leaking coolant into the lifter valley, or a toasted head gasket allow coolant in th crankcase.

Less likely is a cracked cyl head.

Is there goo on the dipstick? Have you looked under a valve cover?

^ what he said.

and rockers on a hyd cam setup shouldnt be terribly noisy, if its a tiny bit of noise it might be normal, but it might be improperly adjusted as well.

Is it cold where you are and is this your DD?? WHat you discribed could be as simple as the engine running too cold.

you can get what sounds like a sewing machine type noise.

If it's none of the above...

The PVC system might be messed up. When I switched to the Victor 5.0 intake (which doesn't have a PVC setup) I hadn't gotten screw on breathers of any kind before cruising the car...25 miles later I had the same crap...I was like

I quickly got breathers, changed the oil, ran it for a few miles and changed oil again...been fine ever since...

Good call. Lack of a PCV will do it real quick.

In cold humid environments condensation can occur during quick trips were the motor doesn't reach full operating temps for several minutes. The moisture will emulsify because additives in the oil are designed to collect the moisture like you describe. It collects in the filler cap because it's where most of the steam from the moisture collects because it's the highest point.

Now if all your oil looks this way or a chocolate shake looking substance then it can be a sign of the coolant getting in the oil. Which can be a bad head gasket, crack or warped heads of a cracked or busted intake gasket.

The car doesn't get driven much. I've put maybe 10-15 miles on it since the h/c/i swap. The oil on the dipstick appears to be fine. Also, it's an Edelbrock performer intake.
