i understand the basic theory, but ive never done it myself, thats why i wanna haev a look at it.

no one locally can tune an efi ford, and i dont know if i want the hassle of a blow through setup if this wanting a blower holds up till fall. so i dont know what to do

Not hard, but a good tuner is the one that can make drivability better than stock.

from what ive been reading on blowthrough setups its a huge biatch to get them to idle nice if you want it to make good power up top.. wich is a problem on a car that gets driven 7 days a week weather permitting.. so im starting to lean towards selling my carb junk come fall and doing a vr efi and some kind of engine managment.. i like the specs on the aem as then i can sell all my msd stuff too since the aem is its own ign box

thoughts?

im correct in reading that it has a onboard wideband, as well as injector drivers, ign module, and 2 step, yes?

so basically i need the aem cpu and harness, then sensors/injectors and thats it right

cant you set up aem with a wideband to make wot adaptions.... basicly let it tune its afr?

creampuff my brother has aem in his car. at first its alot to look at but its preaty easy to use. the hardest part is figuring out exactly what you want to change to make your adjustment.

yeah you can automap it. i find its easier to get it real close myself, then super fine tune it with the automap.

the base table is a great start... i used the 2 bar map one that is in the startup folder. changed the map to the 3.5 bar, then ran the change injector wizard to go from the 19s to the 83s.

car fired right up and i started tuning.

yea i see that, i was just kinda doing the math in my head here a week or 2 ago, and by the time i buy all the extra sh!t i need JUST for the nitrous setup, nevermind if i switch to a blower, there is almost no reason to not switch.

either i need to seperately buy (or already have)

ign box
wideband
2 step (since i already have a 6al, or i sell and buy a digi 7 etc but still)
nitrous controller

at this point im basically 1/2 the price of the aem unit, and thats JUST if i keep the nitrous setup i have now and add the extra stuff i need.

and selling my carb/intake should easily buy me injectors and a victor efi and elbow

aem cpu/harness
victor efi/elbow (would this come with a tps sensor i wonder)
fuel rails
efi fuel pump/regulator
8 injectors
2 - o2 sensors (factory ford ones or should i buy some from aem)
2 - egt sensors
1 - coolant sensor (would the autometer sensor work, or need a factory/aem also)

you don't need narrowband o2s... just one or two widebands, thats up to you. any sensor will work. if its not in the wizard you just need the voltage reference which most vendors supply. i know you can get the autometer sending unit info

map sensor goes in the intake tube at the TB right?

edit: if you were building a setup from scratch, would you just put 1 wideband in 1 header, and an EGT in the other side, or would you put one of each in both banks

no you want it after the tb... it needs to see vacuum. i have mine threaded right into the upper intake on the bottom of it.

wideband needs to be downstream a bit. i have mine in the driver side h pipe stock o2 location.

if i was doing it all over again i would add another to the pass side to have the dual readings. i wouldnt worry about the egt probes. a trick a friend of mine uses is he takes a laser heat gun to the header tubes (usually 7/8) and compares them to the rest after a pull on the dyno. typically on blower cars 7 and 8 are leaner cause of the the intake. you can add a little more fuel to just 7/8 to keep them cooler

if i was doing it all over again i would add another to the pass side to have the dual readings. i wouldnt worry about the egt probes. a trick a friend of mine uses is he takes a laser heat gun to the header tubes (usually 7/8) and compares them to the rest after a pull on the dyno. typically on blower cars 7 and 8 are leaner cause of the the intake. you can add a little more fuel to just 7/8 to keep them cooler

on a single plane intake style like a victor efi (wich is basically a vr jr with injectors tapped into it, the 7-8 leaning out problem should be not as bad due to the fact the air is being blown straight down to the base of the manifold, instead of a long runner efi setup like a stock intake, no?

i have problems with 7 and 8 on mine.... every car is different but 7/8 are usually the culprits
