Absolutely. But the RPM variance isn't much 2-300 if that.
I've got some vids in my old girls car and it sounds like an automatic, need to get it online...

in my 2000 I use to power shift with the stock shifter
in the 90 I had a pro 5.0 shifter and I would seem to miss the 2-3 shift more with that than the stock shifter in the 2000
