clutch cable

just had a manual trans put in the car yesterday. forgive me because i've never driven one of these cars with a manual, so i have no basis for comparason. the clutch pedal is all the way up (which doesn't sound right, because on the stock quadrant, it says to realign it you lift up on the pedal). the guy that did my install said that the cable BARELY fit, but it did fit. the firewall adjuster is screwed all the way in, and the cable barely fit. as soon as you push the clutch in, it immediately releases. my concern is that it is slightly pulling on the clutch and will wear it out. here's my setup:

-TR3650 out of an 02 in my 03 GT
-spec stage 1 clutch
-lightweight flywheel (not sure what brand, bought it never used from craigslist
-BBK quadrant & firewall adjuster
-FRPP clutch cable

any suggestions? i just want to be able to give the clutch cable a little more slack for piece of mind. i didn't want to get the steeda one because of the horror stories that i hear about them stretching.

The firewall adjuster should be screwed out about 3/4 to 1 in. and then fine tune from there until the clutch starts grabbing about 1 to 1.5 in. off the floor.

you didn't hear me. the adjuster is screwed all the way in, and the clutch pedal is still all the way up. there is no slack at all on the cable.

Where did this cable come from? I would concerned if the firewall adjuster is all the way in (closest to the firewall) and the pedal is most eminently disengaging the clutch.

This this a standard replacement clutch or a twin disk?

standard spec stage 1 clutch. the cable came from ford. i can't remember, i either got it from a member on mach1registry.com that sells FRPP parts, or i got it from Maple. either way, it's ford.

i have no idea if this has anything to do with it, but i'll post it up anyway. i had originally bought the wrong flywheel (i got an 8 bolt for the 99-01, i needed a 6 bolt for the 01-04). the guy at the shop has a full service machinist on site. they make custom heads and everything, so he said that he was able to fill the holes and re-drill the correct 6 holes. other than the placement of the holes, are there any differences between the 2 flywheels? could this be causing my issue?

guys on another forum recommended i get a different quadrant. the one i have on there now is a single hook design, and on UPR's website, they say if you have a stock cable with a firewall adjuster (like i do), to get a 3 hook quadrant and use the hook closest to the firewall. i think that's my problem. with the firewall adjuster, my quadrant is pulling on the clutch too much. i just bought a 3 hook UPR quadrant off ebay for $24. i'm willing to blow $24 if that's not right.

Not sure how I feel about that. I thought the 99-01s were a 10.5'' clutch and the 01-04s were an 11''

that's the size of the clutch though, not the flywheel. as far as i know, the only difference in the flywheels is the bolt pattern. i was a little nervous at first too, but he sent it out to a shop to have it measured for ballance and it checked out.

Try the quadrant from UPR, that should fix the issue.

Or try screwing the firewall adjustment all the way out, as that should take up some slack....
