Pics from Indy 500 practice

My dad is here doing live art for a couple teams and organizations, and I'm here helping him set up and also for the fvck of it. Flew in today, got to park 50 feet from the pagoda, the suite where we're setting up is on the 10th floor which gives you an AWESOME view of the track. Pics of that later when it's all set up.

This is the pagoda -

It's to prevent accidents (wheels interlocking, launching off cars infront of them). I can't stand the way they look either. Big long ugly nose followed by big fat bloated looking body work around the wheels. Lame.

Admittedly, I know nothing about racing...but wouldn't all those bubbles on the wind screen of the helmet fvck up your vision?

Not sure if you know they're tear-off's or not, but in any case when looking right through the visor you can't see them, you only see them when looking at them from certain angles to the sun.

eh, you get a bit of blurryness and can sorta see the bubbles from inside, I've given up on tearoffs on my visors (though I no longer do a lot of outdoor stuff that really made it a necessity).

Its really not bad, though I'll admit I get mentally-bitchy if I even see a scratch in a visor nowadays. Need to stop fixating on shyt like that.

Yeah, I knew they were tear offs and assumed that's why there were bubbles, just would have thought they would have that worked out in such a fast moving sport where vision is so critical.

If you go up the stairs and then head left, the Hulman family suite is the first one on the end. FWP, who is your dad dealing with out there? Working with Jared K from the Speedway marketing department?

We need to make these cars safer...you know the problem with these open wheel cars is.....the open wheels.

Suite #500 right? I was in there yesterday, my dad got some passes for it as well. Fvcking amazing suite looking down on pit lane and turn 1. Mary George was in there too, spoke with her a little, nice gal.

My dad is there mainly for Sam Schmidt racing, he's known Sam since before he became a quadriplegic and has done many events with him. I've been talking with a Megan with the team who basically does everything for them. She's the one I get my daily pass to the pagoda from.

To get in and around the track I have this silver pin that's about the size of a quarter. Didn't realize it gets me EVERYWHERE, when the guys in yellow shirts see it they wave me through. I was sitting on the pit lane wall during practice yesterday taking pictures, which to me was bad ass.

Pretty cool that Jean Alesi, Rubens Barichello and Simon Pagenaud are here too. Alesi doesn't sound like he likes the car too much Called it "unsafe."

Yeah, Mary is a crazy old coot. I usually spend some time in her suite every year. Lady is filthy loaded and such a nice lady -- at this age anyhow.

Ive been to a ton with my dad going back to the early 90's, went to most of the races for a few years helping him set up his booths back then. Never been to Indy tho, this place is awesome.

I miss CART too. Better popularity, better drivers, cars, engines, etc.

LMAO... there she is sitting in her seat. Every time I've been in the suite with her in there, that is where she sits.

Not as good as your pics, but when I went to the Brickyard a couple of years ago, we got to go up on the Lookout/Media area at turn 1. Made for a pretty neat view. I stitched together this shot:
