Blu-Ray

I had surgery the other day and have been watching lots of movies on my Samsung Blu-Ray player. It seems like it skips/pauses a couple times in every movie. I have ignored this and assumed it's due to some DRM bullsh1t where law abiding citizens get punished for following the law and not pirating.

Is this the case or do I just have a crappy Blu-Ray player?

I would try cleaning the lens. If that doesn't work live with it or move it to another room and get a new one.

Okay thanks. I'm watching my Gladiator DVD at the moment and it's pausing for about 10 seconds every 30 seconds.

I would rather have one with wifi anyway.

I will update it later. Of course, my Blu-Ray is not compatible with my new router so I have to disconnect my router and connect it directly to my cable modem for it to work.

Get a ps3...although I've never played a blu-ray movie in it so no idea if it would do that or not.

I had nothing but problems with my Samsung player. After trying to deal with Samsung support, I threw the player in the garbage and bought a Panasonic based on recommendations from mw and it has been great

That's free to play online so that's one benefit. I don't pay for xbox gold. Are there annoying 12-year-olds on PS3? Can you use a keyboard and mouse for first person shooters on playstation?

Was yours an early player? Mine is like 3-4 years old.

my parents' samsung player stopped working less than a year after i got it for them. sent it in for repair and they sent us a refurbished one as a replacement and it's been trouble free ever since. but i've never heard anyone say anything positive about a pice of samsung home audio/video equipment.

That doesn't make sense, but what's the model number? I can send you a link to DL/burn the update if that'll be easier.

God of War 3 (or either of the HD collections)
Killzone 2 and 3
Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 (all amazing games, 2 though being my personal favorite)
InFamous 1 and 2 (haven't played 2 yet but heard it's damn good, loved the first one)
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (fun but gets frustratingly hard near the last 1/4 of the races)

I can update it, I just have to connect it directly to the modem. It's a documented incompatibility. It doesn't make sense to me either but it's real.

I'll look into those games. Can you use a keyboard and mouse with a PS3? If not for games, for menus?

yes, you can use microsoft keyboards, which are, ironically, not compatable with the 360

infamous two was better IMO, and festival of blood, while very short (it's more of a minigame anyway) was awesome. basically cole became a vampire and you run around the city drinking people's blood to stay alive

I would imagine no for most games, maybe a select few though.

I had a samsung that did the same thing. I bought it for the price and specs, but it would take 5 minutes to load a BD, then would do that same skipping (which in some cases would just be a couple frames every few minutes).

Finally, Ghostbusters came out on BD. It wouldn't load, and forums showed that samsung was a couple months from a firmware update to fix it. So in the trash it went, and I drove right back to bestbuy and bought a PS3. While I miss the bitstreaming (though the ps3 decodes just fine), I've never had to worry about not being able to play a BD again.

GT5 and that's about it. Its really about being a high quality bluray player for me. I use an xbox for most other media/gaming use.

To me the purchase has been worth it since I never have to sweat watching a movie on it.
