*RW* Flyers pick up Luke Schenn

Flyers acquire DEF Luke Schenn from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward James van Riemsdyk.

Interesting move on the Flyers part.

I didn't see the Flyers giving up JVR but then again they did some crazy moves last year going to a big rookie squad and still ended well.

looks like dumping payroll and gearing up for a bigger move to me..

jagr let go, carle not resigned, bob traded, jvr traded..next to no money has come back in and like 15m have gone out. With Pronger on LTIR and the cap set at 70M they have a TON of cap room.

im willing to bet they make a big run at one/two of parise/weber/suter/nash.

Around here the news is still saying the Flyers want Jagr, he is just interested in seeing if anyone else is interested in paying more. I think they'll sign him for another year.

I dont think they want to resign him at 3.5m per tho.. he'd have to take a paycut to stay.

The guy is rediculously loyal to the sport, the Flyers practice at a rink 2 towns over from us at a place the Flyers call the "skate zone" and people say dude is there sometimes 9p-10p at night by himself skating and practicing.

Supposedly the Pens are going at Suter but I've read on a few occasions that he doesn't want to play in the Eastern Conference. I expect Martin to be shipped out and they'll have plenty of room to make a play at Suter or Parise. Shero also drafted Suter in 2003 and apparently feels he may be able to coerce him to the Eastern conference.

His uncle Gary is a former Shark and made a few strong comments saying he wants and was pushing his nephew to SJ

i don't think id want to go to the east either if i were a D looking for big money long term (not just the contract he signs this year, but the next one too), almost all of the big name big points snipers are in the east, and lots of the eastern teams run aggressive styles that are not kind to D-men's stats.. out of the top 20 point producers last season like 5 are from the west. and thats considering crosby was hurt and ovechkin had an absolutely horrendous year...

Yea. I'm be elated with Suter or Parise and if Martin gets shipped out I expect one of them to land with the Pens and get a nice contract. I still can't believe Staal is gone but when he denied that contract extension he made it pretty obvious. Great trade for both teams tho and the Pens now have room.

So yeah, I just talked to Keith Jones and he said the same shat as Creamy Puff.

They're ditching money to go after a big name. I asked who he thought and he said the Flyers have numerous ways to go so it's a tough call.

I hope its weber (and think that if suter doesnt resign in nash neither will weber) but realistically i think its going to be parise , ryan or nash, which unfortunately will help the team less.

edit: out of the whole group i think suter is also the worst player available, which is funny because he is probably going to end up making next to the most.. weber/rinne and the system nashville plays make him look better than he is.. same way it looked like a brilliant steal for the flyers to get matt carle until pronger who was making him look good got hurt.. then carle looks like an average D man again.

I don't see the FLyers landing Parise, I doubt he leaves NJ honestly. He seems really committed to that city and the team.

I do see a guy like Weber fitting into their system though. July 1st is going to be a fun day

Parise likely will not stay in Jersey. He isn't the 'guy' anymore, and the team made that very obvious.

They can't afford to give him the type of money Kovy got, or even close.. so imo, it's not going to happen.

He can get that cash on the open market, and likely will take it. Players relish their first crack at a real payday after they pay their dues for years on end.

Yea they certainly made it clear that he isn't their guy by making him captain.

So what, they're gonna dump 1/3 the teams salary on 2 guys?

You guys are hilarious. Enjoy that, as well as knowing your team is broke.

Kovy's cap hit is $6.66 million.

If Parise has a cap hit of $7 million, its only $13.66 million. Hardly a third of the teams salary.

Jersey Salary cap hit is already $40,592,499 for 12-13'

That's with 8 forwards and 5 d men signed, no goalies.

So you have 2 d men, 2 goalies, and 7-8 forwards to sign, one of who is going to be your highest, or 2nd highest paid player, good luck.

http://capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=2...70%2C300%2C000

I'm amazed how many forwards they have signed past next season.. oh wait, it's only 1.

so lets assume they DO sign parise for a cap hit ( ) of 7m per..

that leaves roughly 23 million (assuming the cap doesnt go down with the collective agreement, which it probably will) to sign 12-13 players?

bwhahahahahah

bwhahahahahah

Great except that if we do sign Parise 23 million is more than enough.

On offense all we will need is one third liner who we might already have in Tedenby($875k) and a fourth line. It's not gonna cost much. Our entire fourth line had a cap hit of under 2 million last year. Then a few extra forwards who are not going to make much.

We need one bottom pairing D man and a few extras. Fayne is an RFA who made $542k last year, and we have some decent prospects in Urbom ($850k) and Gelinas ($870k) who might be ready to make the full time jump to the NHL next year.

2 Goalies one of which is a backup who will make about $1mill.

It's really not that bad considering most of our top players are signed.

You're gonna have 7-8 in Parise, and another 4-5 in brodeur, plus a million for a backup goalie.

Now you're down to 17 to sign 10 or so players, that's not a good situation to be in, given the quality you'll get for the money.

All of this debate is for nothing. Suter and Parise are going to sign with the Pens, Crosby is going to take a "home town discount" and is "recruiting" both. You all can then hate the Pens more than you already do.

Although in order to get both they're going to need to ship out Martin.

if crosby never got hurt i could see him taking a hometown discount lots of people do.. but with the potential for a career ending concussion id bet he wants a big money (or ridiculously long term) deal to ensure that he gets paid regarless of injury.

Also, the internet and it's people are stupid.

Not mine.

The New Jersey Devils could be on the verge of filing for bankruptcy.

The NHL could take over the franchise.

An NHL source said, "If the NHL has to take over the Devils, Kovalchuk will be moved".

Ilya is owed 11 million dollars this year and upwards of 11 million dollars the following FOUR years. This is something the Devils simply cannot afford, even with Brodeur retiring.

I honestly believe if Parise does resign with NJ, Ilya will EVENTUALLY be traded for great assets. Parise would then become "the man" on top of being Captain. The face of the franchise. The Devils would get a smart return for Ilya who still only carries a 6.6 cap hit despite the high salary. They could also pry a much needed goaltender to eventually take over for the future hall of famer.

Go ahead and pound away.

home town discount hey?

looks like a 9 year 100+ million dollar deal is going to be reported.. a cap hit ~ 9m now i obviously think that this is WAY better than the kovalchuck deal and while i hate crosby for obvious reasons.. thats a LOT of term for someone that has missed 100+ games in the last 2 seasons with concussions... hope they didn't guess wrong

and malkin's deal is up soon too, they are going to have to pay him at least that if not a little more.. having ~20m a year tied up in 2 people for the next 10 years is a risky move
