What news?

I have 9.something cents worth still from dabbling in altcoins and converting them I almost forgot about until you brought it up. Tiger Direct supposedly takes them now. If that's the case, I'll have to spend them on something.

Did we ever discuss bitcoins when they first came out? I don't remember any talk of them on MW, but it seems like something that would have been brought up. Moreso, it seems like something I would have let me computer due, while I slept. To think, I might have missed a post on MW that could have made me millions.

Yea I first heard about it on MW back in 2011 or so. I remember the price being around $7 per bitcoin! It was worth mining and cheap to buy, now it's $2,848!

Yea I have like .1 or something back when I was mining them for fun. Should have bought a bunch when it was like $12 or something, then it hit $500, dropped to around $300, and now freaking $3000?!?

That and the Ethirum mining which is mainly done on GPU's is keeping the supply of any high end GPU's cleared out at the local Frys. Just was there the other day and everything above a Nvidia 1060 or AMD 450 was sold out. Pretty crazy.

****ing buddy of mine has a ton. We used to pick on him mercilessly for mining. We used to pick on him for farming Diablo II items and selling them for bitcoin on various sites. He accumulated over 2k bitcoin very early on.

I don't know what he currently has, but I do know that he bought himself a very nice ****ing ranch in CO, and owns a profitable dispensary there, too.

Although Bitcoin is up 1,000%+ from the 2015 lows, the alt coins (mostly junk) are up as much as 20,000%. Will outperform the stock market until the cryptocurrency bubble pops.

I've been mining ethereum for a little bit. I'm just going to sit on it until it goes to like 3-5k or busts. Out nothing but a little increase on the power bill, if it hits sweet.. if not watching how volatile it is is entertaining

Bitcoin splits into 2: Bitcoin & Bitcoin Cash... Currently trading at $2725 for Bitcoin $BTC & $290 for Bitcoin Cash. If you own 1 Bitcoin, now you should also own 1 Bitcoin Cash automatically.

Some exchanges are supporting Bitcoin Cash, most are not. Many are considering it "free money..."

If you are playing bitcoin through your stock account using the Bitcoin Investment Trust $GBTC, they are looking to liquidate bitcoin cash and give proceeds to unit holders.

Circle, Coinbase, and the GDAX exchange (owned by Coinbase) said they were not going to support BCC.

Slushpool is not supporting BCC for miners at launch.

You may need to update your Bitcoin wallet software/hardware in order to access any BCC balance now. I know Ledger had info on their website as of a couple days ago.

Glad to hear that news about $GBTC FREE MONEY! Woo Hoo!

Yea $BCC/$BCH/BitcoinABC/BitcoinUnlimited/BCash is a mess, they all had few days to prepare - not enough time. They have so many names for it, really was not well thought out at all. I believe the reason why they forked was so Ver could have some leverage when it comes time to the Segwit2x HF in Nov.

You know why it is so high? Tax evasion is worth that much.

With FATCA and CRS coming strong, there is only one place to hide money and be totally anonymous.

Bitcoin isn't anonymous

Cash in your safe or under your mattress is the only totally anonymous place to hide money, right? You could also buy artwork with your cash. If you are connected you can use the "Artwork in Embassies" program to move it around the world without scrutiny under the cover of diplomatic pouches.

The blockchain is available for anyone to look at. All transactions are recorded.
It's only semi-anonymous when you prevent people from associating a person with a public address.

These hackers who demand BTC for ransom have it sent to a public address. People can see how much they collected, and can see where the BTC goes to other addresses from there. Of course there are tumblers and mixers that can be used but you lose a percentage and take some more risk in order to obfuscate transaction tracking.

A suitcase of money is so much easier and anonymous. Granted, it's harder to move it around and there's always risk associated with in person transactions.

On the other hand $GBTC took a hit due to a report that was released saying how risky and overvalued it was. It recovered a little bit before the end of the day. On Thursday I was up 100% over when I bought it and I saw it drop down to around %50 profit and slowly work back up.

Guy shorting it as it had 120% premium, at the same time it's essentially the only game in town right now if you want exposure to bitcoin through your stock account.

Finally found my old wallet file. It's Bitcoin-qt so I have to download the whole transaction block chain until I can move the damn things out.

Turns out what I mined back in 2012 is worth $650 now.

Now to either cash out or just hold onto it and see if it just keeps going up.
