David's
99GT 35th
This is my 99GT, affectionately named "Shaft". I am not quite sure how or why the car acquired this name, but after a few runs at the Shady, local 8th, my friends just started calling the car this. Well, much to my dismay it stuck. Since the day I traded my SVT Contour for "Shaft", I have had nothing but gear ripping, engine whining, tire burning fun.
Shaft seemed to be strong from day one, running low nines off the showroom floor with stock tires and a bad driver (in the 1/8th). I told my girl-friend I would be content if I could click off some high eights with my car showing some bowties who's boss in the process. With her approval, I hurriedly bought flowmasters, Bassini X-pipe, underdrive pulleys, steeda springs, cold air induction, and 70mm throttle body; before she changed her mind. This netted me solid eights, eventually cracking off an eye opening 8:53 at Shady with some Nittos; laying waste to a Lightning in the process (however he did run a very respectable 8:61). Since Shaft and I have become closer of the past months, I have come to believe that happiness is not a car in the eights, rather happiness is a car in the high 7's. To achieve this, I think I may go with a supercharger, 355 rear gears, and 17 cobra R rims with some real "meat" on the back. "Hush your mouth," "Talkin bout Shaft....."
