Select Stangs

CDT PVT Thomas R.'s 00 GT Update
3rd Regiment US Corps of Cadets, West Point, NY

My first year at West Point was not without its perilous moments. Foremost among them was the incident in which I wrecked my GT (Select Stangs, April 2000). My father picked me up at the Academy on a Thrusday afternoon for Christmas Leave. We drove over 500 miles to Ohio, and I hit a patch of ice about 7 miles from home. Thankfully, we flew over the large ditch into a vacant cornfield and no one was hurt. Unfortunately, we made contact with a metal post about halfway through our adventure. To make a long story short, my GT needed a new bumper, hood, windshield and dashboard (the post came through the windshield and split the dash), and radiator mount. The airbags also needed to be reloaded. Luckily, there was no structural damage.

Never one to let an opportunity slip past, I ordered a Cobra front fascia and hood. I love the design of the Cobra, especially the fact that I am no longer plagued by the cheap-looking fake scoop. Despite the new Cobra look, I refused to allow the body shop guys to put Cobra logos on the fenders (they really seemed to want to). It's still a GT, and I don't care for the practice of falsifying a trim level. However, in the quest for speed and style, I will soon add white face gauges and my off-road H-pipe. I'm also hoping to put some long-tube headers on during summer leave. I can't wait to get my car out to the Academy and make the other Cadets jealous. GO ARMY.

A shout out to Thomas all the West Pointers - MW
