Spence's
97 GT
After all of this time,
I finally got around to dropping a few pictures down to you guys and
gals.
I used to have an 87 LX (only a 4-banger) but it was enough to keep
me hooked. So this is number 2 for me.
Here's my kid. A 97 Mustang. I haven't done too much to it. It has been
dropped about 2.75" with Intrax Lowering Springs. It looks great
but rides like a skateboard (remember, it's better to look good than
to feel good). To improve the ride and handling I slapped on a set of
Tokico 5-way adjustable Illuminas with a BBK Caster/camber plate and
urethane bushings all around. The gatorbacks had to go and I put on
Dunlop SP9000 245/45-ZR17s. WOW! These tires grab like you wouldn't
believe and they are quiet (except for a little scrub while doing a
big left sweeper at 100 MPH in the hills behind San Luis Obispo. But
no tire roar at 130MPH across the desert and it tracked like a missile,
though the whistle from the 45 degree bent antenna was horrendous...sunroof
was open). The only thing that the engine got was a K&N air filter
and I knocked out the tonsils in the mass air-flow (it gave my car a
throatier sound and a little kick in the pants).
Yes that is a moonroof in the top. It does a great job at cooling off
this Black on Black car in the So. Cal heat. But one warning...you better
reinforce the body if you are cutting the roof up. You lose a lot of
rigidity up there. But, the aerodynamics of the car creates no buffeting
with the roof open which means you can have it open all year long).
The windows are tinted around and that didn't sit too well with the
Police in this area (second set on the driver's windows).
Just for fun, the stereo was gutted and the rear deck cut out for a
sub on day 2 of owning this car. Eclipse CD, Eclipse 6X8 Bi-polars in
the door, Boston Rally 5.25" in the rear deck along with a Rockford
8" Free-air sub in a custom rear deck (Sorry, the pictures didn't
come out). Power is from a Phoenix Gold M25 for the Sub and an Adcom
4X35w (class A at the bottom end and sweet separation and imaging through
out the range) and an Audiosource electronic crossover to break things
up the right way.
