Personalize your ride.
Ok, so you are saving up your money for some Cobra "R" rims but you want something to make your stock rims look "better" in the meantime. Or maybe you love the way the stock rims look but you want to add that boss or limited edition look to them.

"Is that paint ?..... Looks like paint.... cool"
These wheel inserts are easy to install and are not too "flashy" (really) ! In fact, a few Mustang owners wondered how we did this. "Did you paint it ?

If you are good with a paint brush, this area can be painted, but rather than put up with the mess we went with vinyl inserts.

In addition to black, the inserts are available in many colors. The nice thing about the inserts is that later on if you decide to go back to pure stock, you can peel them off, but they stick very well. After installing them we went on a few rain soaked drives and blasted them with a water hose and they seemed to stay in place no problem. We would say wash them with care when using a sponge and they should last many years

The kit for the 16" GT rims is slightly different from the 15" base or 17" option rim kit. The GT inserts are designed with the slight curved surface of the 16" GT rims in mind.

'99 17" rim with pony insert and our anniversary stripe kit (sold separately).

On the 15" base rim, the cap is more flat and the insert is slightly different. This is similar for the 17" option rims (not shown).

Installation:

To pop the center caps off the rims, use the tire iron that came with your stang.

Tire iron
Use the end that is flat. Insert it in the notch and pry the cap loose. Make sure you have a towel on the ground or are ready to catch the hub as it falls. You don't want to get it scratched by falling on the ground. Pop off cap

Now take the center caps inside and wash the surfaces real good with soap and water.

Do not use a harsh cleaner as it might remove the paint and gloss coating.

Wash area

Next take a soapy water solution. In our case, a bottle of water with a tea spoon of dish soap in it. Don't go overboard with the dish soap. Just a little bit of soap and lots of water.

Place a few large drops of soapy water solution into the recessed pony area.

Soapy water solution
Make sure the soapy water get's into all the areas. spread water around

Now carefully peel an insert from the white backing sheet. DO NOT get the white backing sheet wet or it will get ruined.

Peel insert

After you peeled the insert, lay it in the recessed area of the center cap .

apply insert

The soapy water will allow you to maneuver the insert exactly where you want it. Align the insert so that it is perfectly filling up the recessed area in the center cap.

Now let the whole thing dry for a few hours. As it dries, check to see that it is aligned properly. Allow it to dry overnight.

Align insert

Once the whole area is dry (overnight). You can take a towel an press the tiny areas down firmly so it sticks to the cap. The towel will allow you to apply pressure to the small areas.

Once dry the inserts stick very well.

press down after dry

That's it ! Now go out and enjoy your ride !

Extra notes:
Take your time !!! Don't rush. the tiny areas of the sticker will not stick until the cap is completely dry. After it has dried overnight indoors, you can stick down the tiny areas (like the leg areas) completely and firmly with a towel to aid in pressing down. For best results allow 24 hours to dry.

Under extreme close inspection you might find that the insert does not cover or fit 100% of the area or the spacing might vary from cap to cap. There was an extremely small variation in our center cap molds between the 4 on each stang. The inserts are the same size however. At a short distance (like a foot or so) it does look 100% completely filled up. Again it beats painting as they can be removed in the future without problems ;-).
